Evaluation of the Project

Meera, Miles and myself decided to shoot for Vogue magazine as we knew that studio space was limited and that Vogue do not always shoot their covers in a studio. We chose Vogue because we knew that we were going to shoot on location, and had a location in mind that would be appropriate for the publication we were shooting for.

As there were three of us in our group and four roles to be allocated, Miles took the roles of Art Director and Assistant/Editor while Meera took the role of Model/Retoucher and I took the role of Photographer.

We knew we were going to be shooting in a local woodland location and that the colours the location were going to provide were likely to be green, brown and blue. It’s because of this that we chose to have a black coat as the main piece for the shoot as it wouldn’t clash with the colours provided by the location and would allow our model to stand out. We also knew that we were going to have to shoot a variety of images that would fit the purpose of a cover image and an editorial sequence for inside the magazine. We were shooting our images in the morning on a clear day, so we decided to bring a reflector with us as the light was still bright and low.

As Photographer, it was my job to ensure that I followed Miles’ direction as the Art Director so that we had the correct images for the layout of the magazine e.g. that our cover image was portrait and that we had a variety of portrait and landscape images at close and wide ranges for our editorial sequence inside the magazine.

Overall, I feel that our images are successful and that they standalone. I think that they have been well composed and that aspects such as costume, location and lighting have been well-considered. I think our images are extremely successful as a cover and in an article, and the presentation of our images allowed me to come to this conclusion as it models our cover and article on a magazine template that Miles created in Photoshop. I think we worked really well as a team as we successfully met our brief and were efficient in our timing. We shared the workload equally and communicated well in order to complete the work by the deadline, and we all contributed to the final layout of the magazine and the images we used to do so.
