Third Experiment Shoot

Prior to shooting these images, I asked Sarah, the artist who inspired this shoot, to illustrate the following adjectives; Intelligent, Honest, Crazy, Witty, Creative, Lovely, Strong and Chatty. We discussed which material would be best to use to produce the illustrations and decided that felt tip pen would be an appropriate choice because it is bold and would be clearly visible in the images.

As I was unable to access the studio over the Christmas break, these images were shot against a plain wall opposite a large window and thus are lit using natural light. When framing these images, I had to be mindful of the width of the wall I was shooting against as I wanted a plain and simple backdrop in order to draw attention to my model and her illustrations. I chose to place my model off-centre and tried to vary the tightness of my frame slightly in order to make the collection of images more interesting as a whole. When editing my images in Photoshop, I chose only to adjust my Levels so that my model stood forward from the background and the illustrations were clearly visible. I asked my model to wear black clothing as I wanted her illustrations and her facial expressions to be the focus of the images. I asked her to relate her facial expression to the adjective on the card she was holding up in order to give the images more character and I think this has been successful.
